When all went black and white
It seemed everything was clear
Please, pass the salt and pepper
Let’s pretend everything’s alright
Crisp black lines crisscross the sheet
With instructions to tell the truth
We try to force another on our youth
Hiding in the shadows of our deceit
Stealing colors we cannot remember
Trying to explain a rainbow to a child
Or how a world could once be wild
When all that has been taught is fear
Before the flash of a mushroom cloud
Our colors drained into the stars, we bowed.
